SteadyMatcha Research

The numbers behind the powder.

Independent research into how matcha is priced, graded, sourced, and sold. We track a live dataset of the market so shoppers, buyers, and reporters can see what the labels won't tell them.

Report No. 01 · The Grade Investigation

Does "ceremonial grade" mean anything?

It is the most common quality claim in matcha. Across 1,608 products it predicts almost nothing: a 6x price spread lives inside the single label, and some ceremonial costs less per gram than culinary.

What we track

One dataset, watched over time.

Most matcha "research" is one person's taste notes. Ours is a standing dataset: hundreds of brands and thousands of products, re-checked on a schedule, with every price and stock change logged so we can see the market move rather than guess.

We normalize prices across two dozen currencies to a single price per gram, separate real repricing from currency-display noise, and publish our method and our gaps alongside every finding. When a number is dirty, we say so instead of printing it.
