Whisk 1 tsp (2g) ceremonial matcha with 2 oz of 175F water until frothy. Cool slightly. Combine with 2 bottles of Yakult (or similar probiotic drink), 4 oz sparkling water, and ice. The Yakult's sweetness and tartness balance matcha's bitterness for a creamy, probiotic-rich drink that went viral on TikTok.

What You Need

- 1 tsp (2g) ceremonial or premium grade matcha - 2 oz (60ml) hot water at 175F (80C) - 2 bottles (130ml total) Yakult or Yakult Light - 4 oz (120ml) sparkling water or plain water - Ice - Optional: 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice for brightness

How to Make It

1. Sift 1 tsp (2g) matcha into a small bowl. 2. Add 2 oz of 175F water and whisk vigorously in a W motion for 20 to 30 seconds until frothy. 3. Let the matcha cool for 3 to 5 minutes. 4. Fill a glass with ice. 5. Pour the Yakult over the ice. 6. Add sparkling water and stir gently. 7. Pour the cooled matcha shot over the top. 8. Add lemon juice if using. Stir gently before drinking.

Why This Combination Works

Yakult is a sweetened probiotic drink with a distinctive tangy, slightly sweet flavor. Its sweetness balances matcha's bitterness, and its tartness adds a refreshing quality similar to lemonade. The sparkling water adds effervescence.

The combination went viral on TikTok because it is visually striking (green matcha layering over white Yakult), easy to make, and genuinely delicious -- the flavors complement each other naturally.

Variations

Matcha Yakult Light: Use Yakult Light (lower sugar) for a less sweet version.

Matcha Yakult with coconut water: Replace sparkling water with coconut water for a tropical twist.

Matcha Yakult lemonade: Add 1 oz fresh lemon juice and reduce sparkling water.

Frozen matcha Yakult: Blend all ingredients with 1 cup ice for a slushy version.
